Jeremy Estey- Founder of VIGolf.ca
The Vancouver Canucks. I’ve been cheering for them since the 1994 Stanley Cup Championships when they lost to the New York Rangers in seven games…I also have a soft spot in my heart for the Chicago Blackhawks. NFL, I’m a Miami Dolphins fan. For Baseball I cheer for the Blue Jays and the Atlanta Braves.
2) When you’re not focused on VIGolf.ca what other outside interests are you into?
I’m really into reading. I don’t own a TV so when I want to relax I like to spread out on the couch and read. The majority of the books I read are non-fiction. I feel that if I’m not learning something every time I pick up a book I’m wasting my time. I really enjoy business books, personal development books, biographies, and investing books. I’m into living a healthy lifestyle, so running and going to the gym I would add to the list.
3) Where are some of the places in the world you would like to visit (or live) and why?
Easter Island has always intrigued me. I watched a documentary on it one time and ever since then I’ve had the urge to visit. The fact it’s the most remote island on earth and there is civilization there really fascinates me. Switzerland has always been high on the list for some reason…I can’t give you an answer to that one though.
4) What tunes are you rocking on your iPod?
It might sound clique but it all depends on my mood. Most of the music I listen to though is fast and angry, however I do like to chill out to anything from jazz to dance. Some of the artists and band I really enjoy are Jacks Andrew McMahon, Pennywise, Rise Against, Calvin Harris, Parkway Drive, Bear Tooth, Armin Van Buuren, and a great jazz artist named Dave Kos just too name a few.
5) What is your favorite movie(s)?
I really like a movie called Michael Clayton featuring George Clooney, Sydney Pollock, and Tilda Swinton. It’s a intense drama about lawyers defending a agriculture company who’s chemical products are killing farmers, while another lawyer from the same case starts putting a defense of his own together against them over information that was leaked. It gets intense to say the least. I really enjoy Any Given Sunday, Wolf on Wall Street, and The Departed as well.
6) What’s in the bag?
My club make up is all Titleist at the moment. I use a the D913 driver with a Tour Green Aldila stiff shaft. The three metal is the F913 with 14 degrees of loft and an classic Aldila NV shaft. My irons are the MB’s with a lie angle of 2.5 upright, and I have all of my irons fitted with the KBS Tour C-Taper shaft. I rock three Vokey SM-5 wedges (52, 56, and 60) with KBS Tour C-Taper shafts, while the flat stick is an older Scotty Cameron Red X which I bought for 50 dollars for a member at the Olympic View Golf Club because the guy claims he could make a putt if the hole 10 feet wide. I love it, It’ll be in my bag for years to come. I also play a Pro-V 1 ball.
7) Dream Foursome?
Jason Day would be first on the list. I had a chance to chat with him at this year’s U.S. Open at Chamber’s Bay and he was a super cool dude so I would like peg it up with him. Second would be, Donald Trump. The guy is a legend, and I would love to pick his brain about making money. Third would have to be retired Atlanta Braves pitcher Tom Glavine. Not only is he a decent golfer in his own right, but I’m a Braves fan. And last but not least…Rory McIlroy. He is best ball striker I’ve ever seen, and I would like to see how bad he would beat on the golf course.
8) What is your favorite course golf course?
Favorite golf course to play is Storey Creek up island in Campbell River. Favorite course I’ve had the chance to experience and not play would be Royal Montreal Golf Club. I had the opportunity to walk it at the last year’s RBC Canadian Open.
9) Finish the sentence… “When I hit a bad shot I ____________”!
Cringe and tell myself that I hate golf and I should probably quit…until I hate the most amazing next shot and instantly love the game again.
10) What do you most enjoy about Vancouver Island?
There are so many, but the one that sticks out is how close I live to Pacific Ocean and getting the opportunity to experience it whenever I want.
11) If you were not doing what you’re doing now, what would you be doing?
Living in California laying on the beach.
12) What is your most memorable round of golf?
One that comes to mind is playing the Victoria Golf Club in gale force winds, and hitting a three iron on one of the holes on by the water and having it come short…oh and losing my hat in the Pacific Ocean after it blew off my head after my tee shot.
