Victoria, British Columbia (VIGolf.ca) – As the 2017 Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada Bayview Place Cardtronics Open gets set to tee off Thursday at the Uplands Golf Club in Victoria, Bayview Place owner Ken Mariash, had two sponsor exemptions to give out. With the exemptions, the two players would have a spot in the event and bypass Monday Qualifying.
One of the exemptions was given to Uplands Golf Club Professional Ben Griffin, while the other one was competed for in a six-man shoot at the Gorge Vale Golf Club on Saturday. The shoot-out included Darren Day Jr., Rob Greenwell, Two-time World Long Drive Champion Jamie Sadlowski, Eric Wang, Victoria Vikes player Lawren Rowe, and Steve Lecuyer of Bear Mountain.
In the end it, was a five-under 66 by former Mackenzie Tour member Steve Lecuyer earning the final exemption by three strokes over Jamie Sadlowski.
“I did not want to come here on Monday. I got the call about this and I couldn’t be happier that I turned it into something. Ken is a great guy for doing this, especially for the locals. Everyone here was Canadian, too, which was nice”, said Lecuyer who is a member of the Bear Mountain Maintenance team and had to work a shift that morning before only to arrive at Gorge Vale an hour before his tee time.
As for Bayview Place Cardtronics Open Monday Qualifying, there will 136 players competing for 10 spots into the tournament.
